Mother of late President Yar’Adua dies at 102

Dada Yar’Adua, the mother of the former late President Umaru Yar’Adua, is dead.

She was said to have died on Monday at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, after a brief illness. She was 102 years old.

In her lifetime, the centenarian produced a president, two-term governor, vice-president, minister, major general, and a colonel, among others.

One of her sons — the late Umaru Yar’Adua — was a two-term governor of Katsina state and later became Nigeria’s president from 2007 to 2010.

Another of her sons — Shehu Yar’Adua — rose to the rank of major general in the Nigerian Army and was chief of staff during the military administration of Olusegun Obasanjo.

While her third son — Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua — is a current senator representing Katsina central and a retired army colonel.

In the buildup to the 2023 elections, presidential hopefuls, including Bola Tinubu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC); former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; and Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party (LP), visited the centenarian at the Yar’Adua family house in Katsina.
