Abdul-Majid Umar, a member of the Kano house of assembly, has reportedly been assaulted by a mob in the Goron Dutse area of the state.
Umar, a member of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), was assaulted while attending the annual prayer for peace and stability organised by the Tijjaniyya Muslim leaders.
The lawmaker said he was attacked for supporting the amendment of the state’s emirate council law, which led to Aminu Bayero’s deposition as Emir of Kano.
The repeal paved the way for the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.

Recounting his experience on BBC Hausa, Umar said the mob attacked him shortly after Bayero left the event.
The lawmaker said he sustained injuries before finding safety in a police patrol vehicle.
“After the deposed emir arrived, his supporters began insulting me and my colleagues, blaming us for the repeal of the 2019 emirate council law,” he said.
