The unions declared the strike over a new minimum wage and electricity tariff hike.

On Monday, public secondary and primary schools across Lagos were shuttered due to the strike.

Students and pupils who were not aware that schools would be affected, were turned back at the gates.

Several local government secretariats were also closed. The Lagos state government secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, was shuttered.

Leaders of the labour unions barricaded the gates to the secretariats.

Armed police officers walked round the secretariat to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

PASSENGERS STRANDED AT DOMESTIC AIRPORT

At the domestic airport, all the gates were locked, with passengers left stranded.

However, the strike did not ground activities at the international airport.

The labour unions would enforce the strike at the international airport on Tuesday.
