Lagos police arrest two suspected cable vandals

The Lagos State Police Command says it arrested one Chris Abu and Paul Philip for allegedly vandalising electricity cables belonging to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company Plc.

 

It was gathered that the incident occurred on February 18, 2024, at about 2:30 pm.

 

A police source disclosed that a distress call was received from the Lagos State Electricity Board in Ikeja about the activities of vandals who specialise in vandalising electricity and armored cables.

 

The source added that police officers went to the scene immediately and two males were arrested.

“A distress call was received from the Lagos State Electricity Board in Ikeja, Awolowo, about the activities of vandals who specialise in vandalising electricity and armored cables.

 

“Policemen went to the scene, and Chris Abu, aged 25, and Paul Philip, aged 25, were arrested, and some tools used by the vandals were recovered,” the source added.

 

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone, stating that some equipment was retrieved and the investigation is ongoing.

 

Hundeyin said, “The incident is true, and the suspects have been arrested. During the arrest, one shovel, one sledgehammer, two diggers, and sack bags were recovered, and the investigation is ongoing.”
