(Photos) 14-storey Mandilas building in Lagos gutted by fire

A massive fire, on Sunday broke out in a warehouse in the 14-storey Mandilas Building, Broad Street on Lagos Island area of Lagos on Sunday with goods worth multi-million destroyed.

Clothing goods worth millions of naira were destroyed when the fire gutted the popular Mandilas building on Broad Street, Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The fire broke out from the building in the afternoon, but operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene around 1:15pm.

Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye said on arriving the scene, a warehouse in the 14-storey building was on fire.


She said the fire originated on the first floor and had now reached the fourth floor, saying that fire fighting operation was still ongoing.

 

The Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations were on the scene to battle the raging inferno, which cause is yet to be determined.

But on Sunday evening around 6.00pm, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on its X handle said “The fire incident at the Old Mandilas building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, specifically in a warehouse within the 14-storey structure, has been successfully contained by the Fire Service and various stakeholders.

“The fire, originating from the first floor, extended up to the fourth floor but has now been brought under control.”
