The Lagos state government has announced the closure of some sections of the Third Mainland Bridge for five weeks starting from November 6.
According to Sola Giwa, special adviser on transportation to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos, repair works will start on some sections of the road by 7 a.m. on Monday.
He said the repair work will begin on the ramps connecting Oworoshoki to Adekunle and Lagos-Island, adding the fixing of these sections will take two weeks.
Giwa said starting from November 20, the second phase of the mending, which will take another three weeks, will commence.
“Third Mainland Bridge (3MB) Repairs Advisory. This would be done in 2 Phases,” he wrote on his X page.
“Phase 1: The first two weeks, Monday 6th November, 2023. Closure of ramp inward Adekunle from Oworoshoki, ramp inward Adekunle from Lagos Island.
“Phase 2: 3 weeks After (20th November 2023) Closure of ramp outward from Adekunle to Oworonshoki and ramp outward from Adekunle to the Island.
The 3rd Mainland Bridge will be open for motorists going to Victoria Island and from the Island to Oworoshoki.”
Giwa also highlighted alternative routes for motorists travelling through the affected sections of the 11.8 kilometre road.
Prior to this development, the federal government had announced that another round of palliative repair of failed sections of the bridge would commence on October 23.
In recent times, many Nigerians have lamented over the poor state of the bridge, with long stretches of the road riddled with crater-sized potholes.
