President Bola Tinubu met with Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, on the first day of the G20 summit.

Tinubu departed Nigeria on September 4 for the two-day summit in New Delhi, India.

On Saturday, the African Union (AU) formally joined the group of 20 top global economies.

Tinubu appreciated Modi for hosting the summit and for inviting Nigeria.

As the president of the most populous black nation on earth, I look forward to meeting fellow world leaders and forging strong alliances to secure a brighter future for our great nation, Nigeria – and indeed, the entire African continent,” he wrote on his X page.

“I am committed to advancing our renewed 4D foreign policy objectives: Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora.”

The president also had a brief interaction with Ursula Von Der Leyen, president of the European Union (EU), before the opening session commenced.
