Friends, colleagues celebrate Toyin Akindele on her birthday

Birthdays are not mere occasions meant for only celebrations, during which glasses filled with vintage drinks are clinked and sumptuous delicacies munched. They are also opportunities for introspection and expression of gratitude to God for the grace to be alive and be counted among the living.

Today, Oluwatoyin Titilayo Akindele is turning a new page on her excellent and eventful book of life as she adds another year to her age. This is a rare opportunity to worship her creator for a beautful and richly-rewarding years on earth.

Toyin’s life is characterised by this beautiful qoute, “Leadership is never an avenue to be self-serving but a platform to render great service to people’’. For her, being alive is a rare opportunity to show leadership in service to humanity.

For those around her, Toyin operates at a wave length with top-notch ebergy that she puts into whatever she does.

According to an old friend, “She is an enabler and a force multiplier. She has been a dependable and loyal friend to a fault. A cheerful giver per excellence. Very determined and strong-minded. Even at a time when all hope seems to be lost, she will never want to take no for an answer.”

Toyin’s sense of industry is amazing and infectious. She believes in communication and not just going through motions, and she pushes self above and beyond limit to get things done. This is evident even in her everyday life, as her profile is continually on the rise. It is easily agreed among her large group of friends that she is indeed blessed with a golden touch.

She is also blessed with a very deep sense of philanthropy and known for her uncommon milk of kindness. Indeed, she is unapologetically committed to the uplift of her community, while also helping humanity. It has often been said that Toyin has magnanimity running in her veins.

Toyin atended Wesley Girls Senior Secondary School, Lagos Mainland, for her secondary education. She later proceeded to the University of Lagos to study Finance and graduated in 1997. She also attended the presitigious Harvard School of Business, where she passed the Credentials of Readiness Program (CORE – Business Analytics, Economics for Managers and Financial Accounting).

In her quest to give back to her alma mater, Toyin Akindele came on board of Wesley Old Girls Association (WOGA) as president in a keenly contested election in 2019-2021. She was reelected for a second term following a sterling performance. Many on the board have described her as the driving force for the team.

During her term as president, WOGA has recorded lofty achievements, including: COVID RELEIF package for WOGA members in 2020. Over 200 members benefited from the cash relief; advancement of empowerment program to indigent members which she started with her set (1986) and other sets have also benefitted from the scheme; annual celebration of February 14th Valentine program with the girls for two years straight; regular payment of salaries to External Teacher for engaged for extra lessons for WAEC examinations; rehabilitation of Junior Secondary school; medical assistance for old students and advancement of Scholarship for the children of Our late member of WOGA.

Others are Facilitating and Processing of travel documents for 2 students (Hajara Abdulsalam and Elizabeth Korolo) to represent Lagos State/Nigeria at the Stockholm International competition; Payment of JAMB and NECO examinations for the best students of Wesley Girls Senior Secondary School; Facilating WOGA partnership with Chevron to renovate the Junior School Building; mployment and Payment of salaries for Home Economics teachers for the Wesley Girls Senior Secondary School; Sponsorship of Career Day and Inter-house events; Re-Engagement &Re-admittance of drop-outs students of Wesley Girls’s Senior Secondary School; Renovation of dilapidated classrooms and provisions of fans chairs&tables for learning.
