“Do every job you’re in like you’re going to do it for the rest of your life, and demonstrate that ownership of it.”

This time-tested quote by Mary Barra aptly captures the life of suave and highly cerebral politician, Yakubu Ekundayo Alebiosu Bush, better known as D’Bush among the political class in Kosofe LG, Lagos State and beyond.

D’ Bush is the son of political strategist and grandmaster of the progressives in Kosofe, Pa Alebiosu, popularly known as the Bush of Africa, in the political circles. On the surface, the trained Architect’s gentle mien may deceive you into believing that he is just one of those many political jobbers across the length and breath of the nation, but a closer observation or a few minutes of interaction with him would prove to you that he is indeed a chip off the block from his father’s mastery of politics.

D’Bush’s understanding of Nigerian and world politics is inspiring and he is without doubt an encyclopedia of Kosofe politics since the creation of the local government.

It was, therefore no surprise that no single voice of dissent was raised in 2011 when he emerged as the member representing the good people of Kosofe federal constituency in the House of Representatives. His eight-year stint in the green chamber was a truly years of selfless service to his people.

Like a good deed done, which is never wasted, those good services between 2011 and 2015 have come into play once again. The Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu, has called for service to the good people of Lagos state. D’ Bush has been nominated as a commisioner – designate.

Prior to the latest appointment, D’ Bush served as a Special Assistant to the Governor on Housing – 2003 to 2007 – during the tenure of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

No one will forget even in a hurry that the beautiful story of Lagos as Nigeria’s poster state was launched in that era between 1999 and 2007.

D’Bush is making a return to top level participation in the affairs of Lagos state government armed with vital experience as a former two-term member of the Federal House of Representatives and improved professional and academic qualifications and hugely boosted by leadership training in diverse fields.

For the records, D’ Bush served as a federal lawmaker between 2007 to 2015 (two term of 4 years each. He was the Chairman of the House Committee on Treaties and Agreements & chairman subcommittee on Economic and Financial Crimes Committee (EFCC) at different times.

He served on different committees, which include National Security, Petroleum (Upstream), Gas Resources, House Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crime Committee, House Committee on National Security, House Committee on Finance, House Committee on Inter and Intra Party Relations Committee among others.

An Architect by profession, he is credited with sponsoring bills that include, the Tobacco Control Bill, the Air Passengers Rights Bill, the Alcohol Content Control Bill, Amendment to the PHCN Act on the Transfer of Liability to Occupiers, and Aviation Fuel Test –Laboratory Bill and motions on the payment of adequate compensation for Dana Air Crash Victims, Harmful Effects of Caffeinated Energy Drinks on Nigerians, investigation of the brutal ‘ALUU’ killing of four students of UNIPORT , Ratification and Domestication of all Treaties Signed by Nigeria.

Like a restless soul that cannot be put down, D’ Bush has between 2015, when he last held a political office and now, has amassed academic and professional qualifications. These include a Postgraduate Studies (PGD)- Strategic Leadership from Warwick University, United Kingdom (2022), Master of Science (MSC)- Leadership and Management from University of Northumbria, Newcastle United Kingdom (2021) and Bachelor of Arts (BA)- Leadership and Management also from University of Northumbria, Newcastle United Kingdom (2016).

Also, between 2014 and 2015 the lover of boxing and arts undertook trainings on Leadership and Decision Making-Harvard University, Personal Development at The Coaching Academy London and Dynamic Leadership Programme at the University College, London to horn his all about people’s skills.

A global motivational speaker and lover of youths, D’Bush is set to represent the enduring bridge between the youths and the older political gladiators in the cabinet of Governor Sanwo-olu as he brings his wealth of experience gained over the years into governance once again.
