Chukwudozie Nwangwu, a flamboyant native doctor in Anambra State, popularly known as “Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki”, has been freed from captivity of kidnappers about a week after he was abducted.
However, there were rumours that a ransom of N35O million was paid to the abductors of the native doctor to secure his freedom.
He was reportedly abducted on Sunday, July 23 at Oba in Idemili North Local Government Area (LGA) of the Anambra State by yet to be identified gunmen.
The gunmen also killed two of his personal aides. The native doctor, who was popular for his display of exorbitant lifestyle and exotic cars, buildings and jewelry on the social media, was abducted at one of his hotels.
But it was learnt that the native doctor was released by his abductors in the early hours of Saturday.
There were claims that over N300 million was paid to his abductors by friends who rallied to raise the ransom demanded by his abductors.
However, the abductors were said to have demanded for N50 million which was also reportedly given to them to set the native doctor free.
Anambra Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the release of the native doctor to The Nation.
However, he said though he was aware of the ransom demand, he said he was not aware of the money was eventually paid.He added that the police is making efforts to uncover details of the abduction and release of the native doctor.
Ikenga said: “Yes, he has been released this morning. We are waiting to debrief him, with a view to getting his experience and clue of who the abductors are, so that we can go after them.”
