Good Morning! Here Are Some Major News Headlines In The Newspapers Today: Gunmen kidnap Ekiti APC chairman

1. Gunmen have abducted the All Progressives Congress Chairman in Ekiti State, Mr Paul Omotoso. Sources said he was whisked away on Saturday evening while driving along Agbado Ekiti-Imesi Ekiti Road. APC State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, said the state party chairman was driving in his car when the incident happened.

2. Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have reportedly stormed the Enugu State University of Science and Technology and arrested some students. It gathered on Saturday that the police invaded the university on Friday evening amid the sit-at-home order of the Indigenous People of Biafra that was substantially observed across the state.

3. Sokoto State government has set up a Commission of Inquiry to probe all land allocations and government assets sold or auctioned during the tenure of Governor Aminu Tambuwal. The 5-man committee was led by Justice M.A. Pindiga (rtd), while Nasiru Muhammed Binji, Esq, would serve as its Secretary.

4. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday arrived in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, for the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Tinubu used the opportunity of the summit to visit the Nigerian contingent stationed in the country under the ECOWAS Stabilisation Force.

5. Aishatu y’an Guru Nahuce, a Nigerian pilgrim from Zamfara State, has reportedly returned $80,000 she found to the owner in Saudi Arabia. Independent Hajj Reporters of Nigeria disclosed this on its Facebook page on Saturday.

6. Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has claimed the state was winning the war against sit-at-home enforcers and would never take orders from people he described as murderers and enemies of Igbo land. Mbah said there was no way Enugu could become the premier destination for investment, living, and tourism or its economy grown from $4.4 billion to $30 billion with the people still talking about or taking orders from faceless persons.

7. The Igbo Lawyers Association, ILA, an umbrella of lawyers of Igbo origin, has called on the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun to arrest and investigate former militant leader, Asari Dokubo, over his reported threat to wipe out the Igbo tribe. This was contained in a letter addressed to the IGP dated 6th July 2023, titled “Threats/Hate Speech Against Ndi-Igbo by Asari Dokubo: A Call For His Arrest and Possible Prosecution”.

8. The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has asked the producers of a movie, Gang of Lagos and Amazon Prime Video, a video streaming platform to remove, cease from using the image and manifestation of the Eyo masquerade in the film. He described the movie as a defamatory and sacrilegious one.

9. Gunmen enforcing sit-at-home order, on Friday night, set part of Amaraku market located in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State ablaze. The gunmen also razed vehicles and goods belonging to traders in the market, who are mostly women.

10. President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.); Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun); Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); and Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), among others, on Saturday paid tribute to the late founder of the First City Monument Bank, Otunba Olasubomi Balogun.
