Armed terrorists at the early hours of Sunday killed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Maru, Zamfara State, SP Raheem Kazeem.
They also killed an Inspector of Police Rabiu Umar in an attack on the Divisional headquarters said to have occurred around 2am.
The gunmen, according to report, who were in large numbers, stormed the station gun blazing.
SP Kazeem, who was at the station with few of his operatives, were said to have put up a resistance but were overpowered by the armed criminals.
The DPO and the Inspector were killed during exchange of gun fire and the criminals fled with a service AK-47 rifle before reinforcement could get to the division.
It was learnt that the bodies of the officers were evacuated to a government hospital for autopsy while efforts have been intensified to apprehend the suspects.
