A little over two months to the 2023 general elections, members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State are engaging in a war of attrition, which according to political watchers, may affect the fortunes of the party in the elections.

The crisis, The Post gathered began after the party’s primary elections held earlier this year. The wound inflicted on losers during the election is presently threatening to consume the party in the LGA.

A very reliable source, who pleaded anonymity, accused the leaders of the party of failing to reconcile all the aggrieved members, a situation which he claimed has led to an all-out fighting among the members.

“The leaders have failed in their responsibility to lead well. The crisis began shortly after the primary election to choose the party’s candidate for the house of assembly. An incumbent for Kosofe constituency 1. Hon Okalanwon won the election. But nothing was done to reconcile the aggrieved losers, even when it was obvious they were not happy with the outcome,” the source said.

The crisis has, however gotten worse with the decision of Olarewaju Carew, one of the aspirants at the primary to contest the election for the assembly on the ticket of the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

But surprisingly, Carew and his supporters continue to maintain that they are still in the APC. His campaign posters is designed with the logo of both the APC and the SDP. The posters also bear the photographs of all the APC candidates, except for the Kosofe constituency 2, which has his own photograph.

This action, which many have said is suspicious and dangerous for the party in the elections has continued to generate tension at all the meetings called by the party to resolve the issue/

“This action is suspicious. How can a man who claimed to have left the party print posters bearing the logos of two parties when the parties are not into any form of alliance,” another member of the said.

The seed for the presently crisis was sown during the last local government elections. Mr Carew was said to have contested the primary for the chairmanship alongside other candidates, but eventually lost to the election. His second loss in the assembly primary election was said to have aggravated his anger and decision to engage in a battle with the APC from the inside.

The members are pointing accusing fingers at particular leaders for either failing to act or collaborating with other political parties, a situation which they claimed may lead to APC’s candidates losing in the elections.

“We need to tell the leaders the truth. Our leader, the minister Senator Olorunmbe Mamora and the house of representatives member representing Kosofe federal constituency, Hon Rotimi Agunsoye, need to ask themselves some pertinent questions about propriety or impropriety of what is going on in the local government. Both of them and other leaders stand accused until the truth is revealed,” the member concluded.
