Major News Headlines In The Papers Today: Woman, teenage boy rob traders with toy gun in Ogun

1. The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a woman, Chioma Okafor, and 19-year-old Nweke Joshua, for allegedly robbing traders with toy guns in the State. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Sunday, said the suspects were arrested last week Friday during an operation at Adesan, Mowe, in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the State.

 

2. Many participants trooped out on Saturday for the South-South rally of the All Progressives Congress Women Campaign team in Calabar, the Cross River State capital. The event had in attendance Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, Hajiya Nana, spouse of Tinubu’s running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima and Zahra Buhari-Indimi, daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari.

3. The newly inaugurated Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has frozen all government accounts in the State. Adeleke directed this in his first executive order upon inauguration on Sunday.

4. The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria, ATCON, the umbrella body for all the telecoms companies in Nigeria, including MTN, Airtel, 9Mobile, Glo and other operators, yesterday assured Nigerians that the deployment of the Biometric Voter Accreditation System and electronic transmission of results of the 2023 election are possible with the quality of telecoms architecture available in the country.

5. A yet-to-be-identified man has reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at the flyover near the NNPC filling station on the Sanni Abacha Expressway in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. It was gathered that passersby found the victim’s corpse dangling on the rail of the flyover on Sunday.

6. The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been set ablaze by hoodlums. INEC Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, confirmed this in a tweet.

7. Three persons died on Sunday in a road crash that happened after Fidiwo bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said six male adults and three female adults also sustained injuries in the incident.

8. The Federal Government through the Ministry of Transportation has announced an extension of the resumption date for the Abuja-Kaduna rail services. The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, disclosed this to newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday on an inspection tour to assess the state of readiness of the Abuja-Kaduna rail services before the commencement of operations.

9. Former Civilian Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chykwuemeka Ezeife has applauded the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo for its recent endorsement of the presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi. He also asked the group to sponsor Obi to victory in 2023.

10. The Katsina State government on Sunday organised a special prayer session for the restoration of peace across the entire country. At the event Islamic scholars took turns to admonish residents of the State and prayed for the return of normalcy to the State and the entire country.
