Police arraign four suspects for gang-raping 13-year old girl

Anambra State Police Command has charged a four-man gang to court for the alleged sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl at Enekwesumpu Nkpor, Idemili North Local Council of the state.

Three of the suspects identified as Sunday, Emelie and Chiedu were arrested for abusing the 13-year -old girl from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State, while the fourth culprit, Nwa awọ escaped and is still on the run.

They were arrested when security operatives invaded their neighbourhood at Nkpor, near Onitsha following a tip-off by operatives of the National Agency For Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP), working in collaboration with vigilante operatives.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the development, said the police were informed about the development by the ministry.

The culprits were brought to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Ify Obinabo, and handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) of the Command for prosecution while the fourth suspect was placed on the wanted list.

The victim, who was equally brought to the office of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, emotionally broke down in tears while narrating her ordeal.

The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare lauded the courage of the victim for speaking out on the matter and decried increasing cases of rape in the state.

Hon. Obinabo assured the victim that she would get justice in the matter, and expressed displeasure over rampant cases of rape in the state.

She warned that the administration of Professor Chukwuma Soludo would not tolerate such incidents and appreciated both the officials of NANTIP, Nigeria Police Force and Anambra Vigilante Group for their efforts in the arrest of the culprits.
