Ifeanyi Adeleke: A father’s unfulfilled wish

Eleven days ago, precisely on 20 October, popular Nigerian singer, Davido and his partner, Chioma marked the third birthday of their son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, with a wish- a simple request to God.

In a prayer he shared on Instagram, he asked God to allow the boy grow greater than he is.

“I pray with all my heart that God grants you perfect health and pure happiness for as long as humanly possible. You will grow to be greater than Me , Happy birthday, son @davidifeanyiadeleke !”, the singer wrote.

But exactly 10 days after that fatherly wish, God took the boy away by drowning, causing anguish for the inconsolable parents, friends and relations.

Ifeanyi’s tragic death has brought back the memory of a similar ugly accident, death by accidental drowning of Dbanj’s one year old son.

The incident happened in Dbanj’s Lagos home in June 2018.

Expectedly, Ifeanyi Adeleke’s death has sparked a wave of disbelief and pain when it went round the city of Lagos on Monday.

Temilade Lawal @themilardey wrote on Instablog: “Certainly it’s the boy that made the lovers reconcile. If you think this life is not spiritual, you need help. I pray for the bereaved, nobody deserves this”.

“If a total stranger can feel this terrible since last night for a child that isn’t my blood, who can imagine the pain his family is feeling, especially chioma ???, God give them fortitude to bear the loss”, also wrote @officialbobbyfredrick.

@Realofficialyemi suggested that there should not be a similar tragedy in the future, if the lessons are well imbibed by Nigerian celebrities.

“Same thing that happened to D banj son.. I suggest this artist shouldn’t av swimming pools in their homes once they start having kids… sorry for thé loss OBO”, he said.
