The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), on Saturday, demolished three buildings around the structure that collapsed at 2, Oye Sonuga Street, Papa Ajao, Mushin, Lagos, on Friday.

LASEMA also brought down to ground zero the collapsed building.

LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, who supervised the controlled demolition of the buildings, said that they were pulled down because they failed integrity tests conducted by the Lagos State Building Control Agency and had to be brought down to avert danger.

He said four bodies recovered from the self-collapsed structure had been deposited in the mortuary, while two of those who were rescued and receiving treatment at the hospital had been discharged.

Oke-Osanyintolu appealed to Lagos residents to always obey the rules and regulations guiding building construction.

He said: “As you can see, we have heavy duty, adequate, sophisticated live equipment, technology to pull down the building to the ground zero including other buildings that are unstable around the vicinity. We have to make them stable by bringing them down to ground zero and we are moving from one building to another to make everything stable”.

As at the time of this report, officials of the Building Control Agency as well as security officials were on ground to ensure the smooth demolition of the affected buildings.
