Oil theft: NSCDC arrests pregnant woman, others with 23,600 litres of diesel in Ondo

Men of the Ondo State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have intercepted four boats loaded with 118 kegs of adulterated diesel in the riverrine town of Iju-Osun, Irele Local Government Area of the state.

Eleven suspects, including a pregnant woman and two teenagers, were arrested along with the product, totalling 23,600 litres.

According to the NSCDC, the suspects also loaded the petroleum product in nylons bags.

The State NSCDC Commandant, Hammed Abodunrin, who disclosed this while parading the suspects, said: “Out of these suspects, one is a pregnant woman, while two are minors who were not paraded.

“Items recovered from the suspects include 4 boats, loaded with 118 kegs, totalling about 23,600 litres of adulterated petroleum product.

“Also recovered from the suspects were 5 speed boat engines.

Abodunrin said the suspects could not give proper information about their destination during the arrest.

“The suspects were caught in the act moving the petroleum products to an unknown destination.

“They were caught in the act. It is sad that some people have continued to sabotage government and we will not tolerate this’ he added.

He said the suspects will be charged to court to serve as deterrent to others.

The commandant warned illegal oil bunkerers to stay off the state, saying his men are battle-ready to tackle oil theft and other criminal activities.
