Arikuyeri: Confronted with reality, rapist, murderer Uduak Akpan attempts escape after death sentence (VIDEO)

Life is precious. And death, even for the strongest of men, is not an easy venture. Recall the case of the notorious armed robber, Lawrence Anini, after he was tied to the stake and about to be sent to hell, he buckled and wept like a baby.

Anini is not alone. Before him was Oyenusi and several other notorious criminals who after meeting their waterloo, would suddenly turn to jelly.

That was the scenario at the Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo, on Thursday, when rapist and murderer, Uduak-Abasi Akpan, convicted for the murder of jobseeker, Iniubong Umoren, coming to reality with his fate, made a lst ditch attempt to escape.

The trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, had in his judgement, also sentenced Akpan to life imprisonment for rape.

But to the surprise of the people inside the court, Akpan attempted to run out of the court. It took the intervention of the security operatives on ground to stop him from escaping.

The ruling: The judge, Bassey Nkanang, in his judgement on Thursday, said the convicted man will be put to death by hanging.

Mr Nkanang also found Akpan guilty of rape and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The judge said the prosecution has proved beyond doubt the case of rape and murder against Mr Akpan.

He, however, discharged and acquitted the father and sister of Mr Akpan, who were the 2nd and the 3rd defendants in the case.
