The death toll in the Ebutte-Metta, Lagos, building collapse, which happened late  Sunday, has increased to eight.

A statement by the National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the development.

“Two male additional bodies recovered, making eight deaths,” the acting coordinator, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, said.

The recovered corpses were deposited in some of the vehicles the emergency responders brought to the scene of the incident.

The Post had earlier reported that the NEMA officials, alongside other emergency response agencies, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service; the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, and the police, were on at the scene of the sad incident for  a search and rescue operation.

No fewer than 23 persons, including children were said to have been rescued alive from the rubbles.
