Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have killed a suspected kidnapper in the state.

The state police spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, stated that the suspect was killed during a shootout, adding that 13 kidnap victims were rescued.

According to Edafe, “On April 3, 2022, around 8.40am, information got to the command that a gang of dare-devil kidnappers intercepted a 14-seater bus, with number plate, M831-FJK along Aniagbala community via Ubulu-Uku Road in the Aniocha South Local Government Area, conveying 16 occupants; they kidnapped 13 of the passengers and took them to the bush.

“The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Ali, directed the DPO Ogwashi-Uku division to lead his men into the bush and ensure that the victims were rescued unhurt.

“The DPO, CSP Mohammed Naallah, swiftly led a combined team of police operatives and vigilantes into the bush and gave the hoodlums a hot chase, which led to an exchange of gunfire.

“In the process, one of the suspects was hit and died on the spot, while the other members of the gang escaped with bullet injuries.

“All 13 kidnap victims were rescued alive and unhurt and one AK-47 rifle was recovered.”

Edafe said police operatives were still combing the bush with a view to arresting other fleeing members of the gang.
