One Sunday Oyedele may spend the rest of his life in prison after he was found guilty by Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja, of defiling his neighbour’s three-year-old daughter.
Oyedele was arraigned on April 29, 2019, on one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with the toddler at the Itamaga area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to the prosecution, Oyedele committed the offence in November 2017.
During the trial, the prosecution called four witnesses, including a medical doctor from a sexual assault referral centre, Mirabel Centre, Dr Oyedeji Alagbe.
Alagbe, in his evidence, said medical examinations revealed that the convict had both anal and vaginal sex with the minor.
Delivering her judgement on Tuesday, Justice Soladoye held that the prosecution proved the charge of defilement beyond reasonable doubt.
She said, “The defilement saga is unfortunate; the defendant is a sexual monster and a paedophile, who should be locked away. The charge against the defendant has been proved beyond reasonable doubt.
“The defendant, having been found guilty, is sentenced to life imprisonment with no option of fine. He is also to have his name registered in the Sex Offenders Register as maintained by the Lagos State Government.”
