Many feared killed in Delta church collapse

A yet-to-be-ascertained number of worshippers were reported dead after a building housing Salvation Ministry in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State collapsed.

According to reports, an unspecified number of worshippers may have been trapped in the rubbles.

It was further learnt that the building collapsed around 5:55pm on Tuesday during a service.

The church building, it was gathered, was being used for the first time.

Eight persons have been rescued unhurt while four persons were taken to the Asaba Specialist Hospital, The Nation further learnt.

Delta Government officials, including Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Chief Patrick Ukah; Commissioner for Health, Dr Ononye Mordi; team of Red Cross officials and fire fighters were at the scene.

Many worshippers, family members and sympathisers were in tears searching for loved ones.

Community youths, state fire fighters and a team of policemen were said to have been mobilised for rescue operations.
