There was pandemonium at the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos on Tuesday afternoon, as a truck crushed no fewer than 15 students crossing the road to death.
The incident occurred at Grammar School Bus Stop when the students were returning from school. The incident has reportedly led to a massive riot as students of Babs Fafunwa Millennium School and some hoodlums are said to be on rampage.
People were seen running helter and skelter as sound of guns are heard in the area. Shops have shut down and the entire area is deserted.
Residents and passersby protested the incident.
There is massive police deployment in the area which has helped to restore calm.
Police used teargas to disperse protesting students and hoodlums in the area.
It was observed that vehicular movements were affected with many running for safety.
Policemen attached to the Ojodu Police Station are at the scene to restore normalcy and vehicular movement.
An eyewitness, who spoke in Yoruba, said: “We are in front of Ojodu grammar school now, where an accident has just occurred. A trailer has killed some of the students.
“If you have a relative who attends or is close to Ojodu grammar school, you should come and check up on them.
“It is severe; we are in front of the police station close to Ojodu Grammar School.”
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the driver of the truck who crushed the pupils.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the arrest of the driver, adding that investigation had commenced into the incident.
“The driver has been arrested. Investigation into the accident is ongoing,” he told reporters.
