Suspected bandits have killed a man, simply identified as Ayuba, and kidnapped his six family members in a farm at Labgeta community in Kogi State.
Labgeta community is on the busy Abuja-Lokoja highway.
Ishaya Bulus, a relative of the victims, explained that the incident happened on Wednesday, when the victims were harvesting beniseeds in their farm.
“They were busy harvesting Beniseeds when the kidnappers suddenly appeared and rounded them up at gunpoint.”
Narrating the incident, he said it was while they were moving the victims into the forest that one of them attempted to escape and one of the kidnappers opened fire on him.
He said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at a mortuary, saying his family was yet to establish contact with the kidnappers on the situation of the rest of those in the bush.
A member of the vigilante in Kotonkarfe Local Government Area, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying the vigilantes were combing the forest around the area to trace the kidnappers’ hideout.
