Former deputy governor of Oyo State, Taofeek Arapaja, in the early hours of Sunday emerged as the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Arapaja’s victory has put an end to the efforts of former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, to occupy a national position in the party.
Arapaja, an ally of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, defeated the retired military massively, scoring 2,004 votes against Mr Oyinlola’s 705 votes.
The victory of Arapaja, currently, the national vice chairman (Southwest) of PDP was received with wild jubilation at the Eagle Square venue of the PDP Convention in the early hours of Sunday when it was announced.
However, former Senate President, Iyorcha Ayu was affirmed as the national chairman of the party as the only candidate on the ballot for the position by the over 3000 delegates.
