The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has said three helicopters and 34,587 police officers would be deployed to Anambra for the State governorship election on November 6.

The IGP said this while meeting police officers from the rank of Commissioner and above.

He said that the over 30,000 officers would consist of conventional police officers, Police Mobile Force, the Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Forces, Explosive Ordnance Unit, Force Intelligence Bureau, INTERPOL, Special Protection Unit and a medical team.

The helicopters would be deployed for aerial surveillance while detachments of Marine Police operatives would also be deployed for an itch-free election in the state.

According to the IGP, the deployment was necessary after the election security threat analysis conducted by the Force Intelligence Bureau.

The police chief said the deployment is to create a conducive and enabling environment that will guarantee the peaceful conduct of the election.

He also noted that the police is committed to partnering with INEC within the dictates of the Electoral Act to deliver a credible election in Anambra.

Baba warned subversive elements and political actors who would want to adopt undemocratic and illegal means to achieve their aspirations to bury such thoughts.
