The circumstances surrounding the story of how a father, one Mr. Lambert Osondu, beat his 20-year-old son, Chukwuebuka Osundu to death and buried him secretly in the family’s compound have been revealed.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Imo Police Command, CSP Michael Abattam, said Mr. Osundu and his daughter Rachael Osundu have been arrested.
He said the Command’s operatives who were acting on intelligence, interrogated one Robert Anyanwu, chairman of Umuezealagwu Umuduruekwe in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State.
Abattam said it was revealed that on September 14, at about 12.00pm, the Osundu family comprising Lambert Osundu, Ndubuisi Osundu and Rachael Osundu, all of Umuduruihiako Umueze ll, in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, conspired and beat their youngest son, Chukwuebuka Osundu, aged 20 years, to death for yet to be confirmed reason(s).
The PPRO explained that after killing him, the father of the deceased, with the assistance of his son, Ndubuisi, carried the lifeless body to the back of their compound, dug a shallow grave and secretly buried the corpse.
Abattam said when the villagers asked the family about their son’s whereabouts, they told them that he had travelled to Ghana to seek greener pastures.
According to him, the command’s operatives with the support of the community were able to arrest Osundu and Rachael.
He said the couple are presently undergoing interrogation and had made useful statements that would lead to the arrest of the other family members on the run.
A member of the community identified as Chibuikem said it was Rachael, the sister of the deceased who disclosed what happened.
Chibuikem said the boy actually was stubborn and would not listen to parents, saying that sometimes, he would even threaten to beat his parents.
He said some boys in the village discovered that they did not see Chukwuebuka for sometime and that when they asked his family about his whereabouts, they were told he travelled to Ghana.
He disclosed that his sister later let the cat out of the bag.
