Operatives of the Cross River State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old electrician, Godwin Ubung, with 375 pieces of live AK-47 ammunition and a chain of GMPG live ammunition.

Parading the suspect on Thursday in Calabar, the new Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan, said Ubung was arrested on Wednesday in Obudu while riding a motorcycle with his accomplice, who escaped.

“The suspect is being investigated to establish the source and mission of this illegal act and to bring his cohorts to justice,” the CP stated.

Narrating what happened, Ubung said, “My cousin, Christopher Udie, asked me to drop him at the park and take his motorcycle to the mechanic for repairs, because he said he was travelling.

“When we approached a police checkpoint close to the Sankwala junction park along the Ranch Road, the cops stopped us and asked us where we were going.

“I disembarked from the motorcycle. The policemen asked what was in the bag. Before I knew it, Christopher threw the bag on the ground and ran. I didn’t know what was in the bag.”
