Suspected bandits, in the early hours of Friday, invaded Dansadau, a town in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing four persons and abducting no fewer than 14 others.

Those that were kidnapped, it was gathered, include a pregnant woman and children and other members of the family of a man said to be a lecturer at the Zamfara State College of Arts and Science.

It was gathered that persons were injured in the attack that occurred around 3.00 a.m., during which the bandits also reportedly went from one house to the next and looted food items.

A resident of the town, Malam Mohammed Dansadau, told Saturday Tribune that the four persons that lost their lives were vigilantes who tried to force back the bandits’ attack on the community.

Dansadau said: “The armed criminals invaded the community around 3.00 a.m., fired several shots into the air and then went into some houses where they abducted people, including women.

“Those killed were vigilantes who came out of their houses and bravely fought the attackers. The criminals also set ablaze an armoured vehicle stationed in the community.

“The security men fought back but were overwhelmed by the number of the bandits.”

The spokesman of the state police command, Shehu Mohammed, confirmed the murder of the four victims, but said five persons were kidnapped during the attack.
