A policeman was killed on Thursday when armed robbers attacked a branch of a new generation bank in Otun-Ekiti, the headquarters of Moba Council Area.

According to reports, the robbers stormed the bank around 5pm and shot sporadically to scare away people.

Witnesses said the robbers stationed their gang members at strategic positions in the town while others robbed the bank.

They said they forced their way into the banking hall with dynamite and carted away huge amount of money stacked in a sack bag.

The witnesses also said that some of the customers were held hostage in the bank for 30 minutes before interventions of security agencies.

Confirming the incident, Ekiti Police spokesman, Stephen Abutu, said the robbers attacked the bank with dynamite.

Abutu further explained men of the Command and military men attached to the area engaged the robbers in a gun duel, which he said resulted into the loss of one of the mobile police operative at the scene.
